Wilko is planning to cut over 400 jobs across it business in a bid to control costs.

According to The Guardian, the cuts will span assistant store manager, retail supervisor and head office manager roles, as well as call centre workers following a drop in sales.

The family owned business is also understood to be planning to reduce hours for team supervisors in 150 of its 401 stores, which will equate to around 150 full-time equivalent job losses.

The job cuts will also impact around 150 assistant store managers and approximately 95 contact centre workers in Worksop, where roles are being outsourced to a South African firm later this month.

Other areas affected will include dozens of head office management roles spanning commercial, retail operations, merchandising, finance and marketing.
