Waitrose is to make its shops more energy efficient as it looks to combat rising energy prices and reach its goal of net zero emissions by 2035.
The supermarket is switching its in-store heating from fossil fuel to electric heat pumps that are powered by zero-carbon renewable energy.
In addition to the net-zero target, Waitrose has also committed to reducing its energy consumption by 25% by 2028 by focusing on energy efficiency projects over the coming years.
Waitrose will also be combining the heat pumps with upgraded refrigeration systems to allow heat recovery to generate further efficiency.
