Tesco is scrapping multipacks of its own label drinks as part of the supermarket’s plans to save 45 million pieces of plastic a year.
However, individual cans of the products will continue to be sold at the same price per unit as a part of a multi-buy promotion, and shoppers will be able to mix and match purchases across lemonade, cola, ginger beer, soda and tonic water.
The multipacks of four items used to cost £1, but now the items are priced at 50p a can or four for £1.
Initially 12 million pieces of plastic a year will be saved from use on all own-brand canned fizzy drinks.
Tesco will also save a further 33 million pieces of plastic in the autumn through the removal of plastic multipacks from kids’ lunchbox drinks.
