Sainsbury’s has opened its first ever supermarket in the Shropshire town of Ludlow.
Spanning 19,564 square feet, the store was opened by Deputy Mayor of Ludlow Vivienne Parry and Ludford Parish Council Chair Imogen Liddle, alongside local Ludlow Primary School pupil Lottie Wells who won a competition to design a limited-edition Sainsbury’s bag for life for the opening.
Sainsbury’s plans to become net zero in its own operations by 2035 and said the Ludlow store is its most energy efficient supermarket to date. From the beginning of next year, it will rely on no fossil fuels or natural gas and will use 30% less energy than a similar-sized store would have used three years ago.
The store offers almost 29,000 products and features an in-store bakery as well as a new look ‘Fresh Food Market’ with an extensive range of fresh fruit and vegetables and food-to-go.
The shop also offers a selection from Sainsbury’s Habitat range as well as in-store Argos.
