Pret A Manger is to give its 7,870 UK shop staff their third pay rise in 12 months as it looks to help them with the high cost of living.

From 1 April, team members, baristas and shop managers will be awarded an additional 3% pay increase, on top of the 5% uplift that came into effect from last December.

The move means that the average base pay for shop staff will have increased by 19% in the year to April, while average entry level pay will have risen by 15% year-on-year to above £12, including the brand’s Mystery Shopper Bonus.

The increase will be applied to shop employees irrespective of age, although some differences may apply depending on role, experience and location.

Pret has also been looking at ways to improve its staff benefits package. This has resulted in a new discounts portal being made live which enables staff to access to fresh food and other essential items from major supermarkets and other businesses at a lower cost. Pret also offers free food and drink to staff during shifts, including breakfast and lunch, and a 50% discount when they are not working.
