New figures from Asda’s Income Tracker have shown that household disposable incomes fell in every UK region in the first quarter of 2023.
Across the UK as a whole, families’ income left after paying taxes and essential bills, fell by 9.2% during in the period to an average of £213 per week, compared to £236 per week in the first quarter of 2022,
Households in the south east experienced the biggest fall in disposable incomes in absolute terms with a drop of of £41 per week, which equates to 18% year-on-year, to a weekly average of £186.
Northern Ireland recorded the largest year-on-year percentage drop of any region with a fall of 21.2%, while Wales saw a decline of 11.6%.
In response to the cost of living crisis, the supermarket has locked the price of over 500 family-favourite branded and own-label lines and is also offering customers the chance to earn cash which can be spent in store by signing up to its new Asda Rewards loyalty programme.
