South Yorkshire

South Yorkshire has grown a lot since its establishment as an industrial centre for mining and steel manufacturing. Through a series of large investments from the government, regeneration and redevelopment has occured on a significant scale. The results are readily apparent, with historical landmarks shining with their former glory and new, lively, modern venues springing up to provide a range of entertainment. Much of this is focused in Sheffield, with the 'Steel City' and its suburbs containing over half of the county's population and retail jobs.
